Square Enix announced that they will be gradually discontinuing all service for the smartphone game SINoALICE, dreamt up by creative director Yoko Taro of NieR and Drakengard fame. The DMM and browser versions will end service at noon on December 26, 2023, followed by the discontinuation of all iOS/Android services at noon on January 15, 2024.
Originally released in Japan on June 6, 2017, Yoko’s actual birthday, servers will be shut done roughly six months before its 7th anniversary. The ending chapters will be updated and available to play between December 26 to January 15. Following the ending on December 26, the story will conclude for those who have cleared the final chapters. Specific details will be announced separately.
Leading up to the complete end of service, in-game purchases of crystals will conclude today, October 26, and usage of these items will be available through December 26.
The game will undergo a round of maintenance today to implement in-game campaigns and events to help players enjoy the trek to the end. Further details will be announced on the official website and within the game itself.
The global service for the game is scheduled to end on November 15, 2023, so it’s somewhat unfortunate that the Japanese side couldn’t survive much beyond that.
That being said, the hype for the game quickly wained throughout the years, especially in the last couple years. It’s sad to admit that I haven’t actively played the game in many months. I will mourn the money that I spent to enjoy certain aspects of the game throughout the years, but like everything else, all things must come to an end. I had a feeling the end was coming soon; it’s just somewhat of a shock to finally receive the official news of its inevitable discontinuation.
