Due to my stupidly late work schedule (I usually have to work until 10pm), I missed the delivery of the soundtrack yesterday. Thankfully though, I was able to get it redelivered for this morning–and here it is!!
The OST comes with two nice looking CDs with Zero’s glyph printed all over it and a gorgeous 16 page (including the front and back) booklet insert printed on “aged” matte or non-glossy paper. I will get proper scans of this made later today but the pages in the booklet include the track list for both discs, a 2-page commentary by composer Okabe Keiichi, a 2-page black and white print of the artwork below, lyrics* for “Kuroi Uta”, “出蠢 / Out Come the Crawlers”, “防来 / Arrival of the Guards”, “侵贖 / Raid of Redemption”, “踊祝 / Celebratory Dance,” “友歌 / The Anthem of Camaraderie”, and “This Silence is Mine”.
Here’s a quick look at how I’m labelling each track:
BOLD: My English Translation
ITALIC: Official International Title
BOLD RED: Original Japanese Title
* Please note that all transcriptions, translations, and interpretations on this page were made by me. You are more than welcome to use the information here, but it would be greatly appreciated if you could credit my hard work as your source. Thank you!
** The information pertaining to the track list for the International release of the soundtrack was compiled thanks to the following Web site. http://drakengardgame.com
[EDIT: June 18th, 2014]
I’ve updated the track list below to include the official titles for each track for the International version of the soundtrack. Please notice that this is nearly a complete soundtrack, however; it is lacking both versions of “Kuroi Uta”, as depicted by a simple X below.

The Last Song
Here’s a quick break down of the music that plays during the final boss battle of Branch D. The vocal lines by Emi Evans for Five-One uses her usual chaos language that she’s created in the past for Nier; therefore, it’s near to impossible to find accurate lyrics for this portion.
ZERO: Kuroi Hana
FIVE: 友歌 (ガブリエル&アブディエル)
The Anthem of Camaraderie / Companthem
FOUR: 出蠢 (ファヌエル&ガルガリエル)
Out Come the Crawlers / Exvulsion
THREE: 防来 (アルマロス&ゾフィエル)
Arrival of the Guards / Prevolt
TWO: 踊祝 (エグリゴリ&ラファエル)
Celebratory Dance / Blissade
ONE: 侵贖 (アルミサエル&イズライール)
Raid of Redemption / Corroscience
ALL: Kuroi Hana
Comparison to the girls’ battle themes as opposed to “The Last Song”:

LINER NOTES
Composer Okabe Keiichi’s liner notes:
First of all, thank you very much for purchasing the DOD3 soundtrack. Could it be that the majority of those who purchased this CD also purchased the Nier soundtrack as well? Thanks to your support, we were able to release this soundtrack without any problems. I sincerely thank you for your support.
Then, for the production of the DOD3 sound, Director Yoko Taro suggested that we create “something different from Nier or even the previous DOD titles”. Even with this in mind or with the hint of “something like Nier = something like me”, it’s difficult to change the natural energy that comes out. As a result, I was able to compose themes that allowed one to truly feel what Nier was all about, it’s not about trying to do better than with Nier–things come naturally when I feel a sense that something is working right, I’d be very happy if you could have an open-mind for this area.
I believe the greatest differences between the music of the previous games, Nier, DOD1, and DOD2, is the beat and the strong distorted guitar boss themes. It’s not like I want to say “This is different from before, right?” or anything, but rather I want you to play the game and suddenly feel a nice “contrast” when it comes. That is one of the biggest musical concepts in DOD3.
Nier, DOD1 and 2 all shared the same “world view” musical concept . With DOD3, we have regular stage and boss battle themes, but while it feels like a soundtrack from a completely different game series, by constructing stage and boss themes that use the same melody as a motive, we can create a strong awareness of such expansive colors that are born from this sheer contrast.
It was the gorgeous Utahime Sisters that added their colors to the music and drew out the maximum appeal. If you compare the production of the normal instrumental BGM themes with adding the vocal line on top, it’s an extremely difficult task, but at the same time there’s a sense of unity between the game and the music, and even the story and design. By having various people sing for DOD3, I believe we were able to convey a different sort of appeal this time. More than anything, I myself felt encouraged by the Utahime Sisters, and therefore was able to thoroughly enjoy working on this soundtrack.
With these various thoughts and effort by the composers, I very strongly hope that everyone who gives this soundtrack a listen may feel something, or simply feel glad that you listened to it. Once again, thank you very much for listening to this CD.
Yoko Taro’s somewhat hidden and
incredibly TINY message:
Yoko (Y): Hello, I’m Yoko. I am the creative director for Drag-on Dragoon 3. Please allow me to write for these liner notes.
Zero (Z): Hello. I’m Zero. I’m the main character in Drag-on Dragoon 3.
Y: Did you just bite me?
Z: No, I did not.
Y: Is that so? So anyway, Miss Zero, although it appears like you play the main lead in this story, do you have any comments for this soundtrack?
Z: Not particularly.
Y: You could talk about your relations with Mr. Okabe or maybe your expectations for the songs on the CD– like it says here in this E-mail from the manager at Square Enix.
Z: I’ve never met him before, so I don’t know about that. I’ve never heard the music either, so I have no clue. May I go?
Y: It looks like we need more words, so you can’t leave yet.
Z: Tsk.
Y: Did you just ‘tsk’ me?
Z: I did.
Y: I see. Anyway, Miss Zero, what sort of music do you usually listen to?
Z: I don’t listen to music or anything for that matter. This is a Fantasy setting so there are no machines to listen to music.
Y: Please don’t talk about the setting. The fans are probably watching.
Z: Fans?
Y: The game fans.
Z: Is that so. Sorry.
Y: It’s alright.
Z: You don’t have any other questions?
Y: Um, let’s see. It says, “Thank the listeners.”
Z: Listeners?
Y: It’s another message for those who listened to this CD.
Z: No, I didn’t make that music so I really don’t have anything else to say.
Y: Yes, you’re right.
Z: ……
Y: ……So, I’d like to end the liner notes here.
Z: Thank you very much.
Y: Thank you very much.
