NieR Re[in]carnation – Unreleased Weapon Story: Si’F-00

It’s taken me a long time to experience the end of the NieR Re[in]carnation story ever since service ended at the end of April. I was super busy getting used to my new contracted job and then I broke my leg/ankle just before Golden Week, so it was the furthest from my mind, unfortunately.

So, I’ve been trying to catch up as much as possible and I recently watched gameplay through to the end of the story as well as several of the live broadcasts with the staff. I still need some time to process everything, but in the meantime, I wanted to share this little bit about Noelle that I came across.

Noelle was always an interesting character from the first time she appeared in the game, and these extra bits about her really spark my imagination. This was a question regarding Noelle’s origins, whether she might be directly related to NieR:Automata or perhaps Replicant. Scenario writer Karin Harada answered this during the April 18 live broadcast, which you can view below.

Well, the answer might be a little indirect in the form of an unreleased weapon story, which I’ve translated below. This is a story in the Si’F series of weapons for Noelle. I also tried to search “Sisters Fang” in English and couldn’t find anything (it also may or may not require an apostrophe, so I left it without), so I’m curious to know if this was never explained in English. As far as where it fits within the other Si’F weapons, Harada mentioned that this is the first in the series, hence the double 0s.

I believe this is talking about the Original android from which the others like Noelle were created, but I don’t recall if we were given any other details that would allude to who the Original could be. Given how closely related they seem to be with the Dragon weapons, I’d like to imagine that they’re alluding to the Original Accord in the Kingdom of Night around 6230. Or, perhaps these are precisely the human form of the dragon weapons that we all know and love and Accord is the one who first gave this character her name.

Also, here’s the 17th Live Broadcast from March 6 if you missed it. They also talked about a lot of interesting things, so definitely check it out!

NieR Re[in]carnation – 28 Artists Illustration Campaign

Updated: April 3, 2021 – 3:09pm

Now that the NieR Re[in]carnation 28 artists illustration campaign is largely over (the giveaway portion is still ongoing), it’s time to gather everything together to showcase this amazing artwork!

This campaign is part of the 10 million downloads celebration in which 28 artists participated in illustrating characters from the game. The official NieR Re[in]carnation Twitter account began posting images several times a day from March 20-31. Those who follow and retweet the images are entered into a final giveaway contest in which 100 lucky winners will be given an illustration book that includes all of these images.

Below you’ll find a list of the participating artists. Click on a name to be brought directly to that artist’s illustration, or merely scroll down the page to view all images. Some artists currently have no additional information for them, but this will be added at a later date.

I’ve also included brief information on the artist and any personal/professional links they may have. You are also able to jump to the individual tweet where the artwork was originally posted.

NieR Re[in]carnation Character Videos

Starting today, the official NieR Re[in]carnation Twitter account will be sharing character introduction videos with us, starting with the Girl in White today.

Please note that the video itself is not currently available on YouTube, so I will edit this post later when it is. In the meantime, you can take a look from their tweet.

I will continue to edit this post to add any additional character introductions.

Girl in White

https://twitter.com/NieR_Rein/status/1345293755390201861

Translation:
“Do you know a spell to have sweet dreams?”

An awakened girl, closed-off hopes.

Sacrifice.

What I saw in the “Cage” were nightmares, faded dreams.

“But why do I always have such nightmares, even though I’m doing this?”

The Black Monster

https://twitter.com/NieR_Rein/status/1345656142878232576

Translation:
“I do not understand human emotion.”

What is their true identity? Their purpose?

Their emotions? Their desires? Their mind?

UNKNOWN.

Hidden words, lost dreams.
The black monsters*.

I don’t care who you are. Just shut up and give me dreams. I don’t care if it’s a nightmare or whatever else.“**

Vagabond Boy

https://twitter.com/NieR_Rein/status/1346018532384010240

Translation:
“I couldn’t stop the chief… my father.”

An unbreakable light.
Obtainable at the end of this journey you’ve prepared for.

Citizens, resist.

With a noble wish.

An unbreakable will, a noble oath.

“I have little time left...

Hunter with Prosthetics

Translation:
“I will get stronger and stronger, and one day…”

A nation in the turmoil of war.
Two sisters living modestly.

Hatred…
Weapons…
Gear…
Annihilation…
Solitude…

The flame of revenge…
The pain…

Cruel hope, stopped time.

“Thus, I have nothing more to lose…”

Mechanical Soldier

Translation:
“I just kept waiting for the time my body would rust…”

Made as a weapon,
A boy and the wilderness.

Forgotten emotion,
Wells up in my chest.

I must protect it no matter what,
The light of animus.

“I don’t need to obey anyone’s orders anymore…”

A machine’s prayer, constraints of loyalty.

Assassin

Translation:
“This tattoo I’ve inherited is proof of the role I bear…”

A bloody swordsman.
A blooming May flower.

Hold your breath.
Slay the heart.

Who is afraid, of butterflies dancing in the rain?

“Only with a sword does my existence make sense.”

Quiet wrath, a proud, blooming flower.

NieR Re[in]carnation Delayed

The official Twitter account for the upcoming NieR Re[in]carnation smartphone game released the sad news that the game has been delayed.

Translation:
[Notice About the Start of Service]

From the beginning, we have been working on development with the goal of officially starting service within 2020, but this date has been pushed back to the first half of 2021.

We deeply apologize to everyone who has been looking forward to the release. (See the official website for more details.)

Translation:
[Notice About the Start of Service]
We would like to inform everyone who has been waiting for the release.

From the beginning, we have been working on development with the goal of officially starting service within 2020, but this date has been pushed back to the first half of 2021. We deeply apologize to everyone who has been looking forward to the release.

Additionally, let us discuss the current development status.

Regarding the development, most of the work on Ver.1.0.0 of the game has been completed. Currently, we are focusing on preparing additional content after the service starts, stabilizing and optimizing the game so it can be played smoothly.

When the new official release date has been decided, we will inform you again.

As the first smartphone game in the “NieR” series, the management team continues to devote themselves to making a game that will “surprise” many of those who play it.

We kindly ask for your patience until the official service starts.

The NieR Re[in]carnation Management Team

Yoko Taro, the creative director, also shared the news on his Twitter in usual Yoko fashion:

Translation:
Maybe I told them to fix too much, saying “fix this” and “fix that.” Now the service has been delayed until next year… But, I think it will be for the best… Please hold on a little longer…

Saito Yosuke, the NieR series producer, also mentioned the delay:

Translation:
We are aware that you’ve been waiting for this, but we’d really appreciate it if you could give us a little extra time to improve the quality and debug the game further. m(__)m

And Matsukawa Daichi, the NieR Re[in]carnation director at Applibot, also mentioned it:

Translation:
We’re very sorry to keep you waiting…

The development team will continue to do their best so everyone can play as soon as possible…!!

So, in terms of game development during the days of COVID, this really isn’t much of a surprise, or is it really much to worry about. Applibot makes some really nice, quality smartphone games (like BladeXlord), so I’m not really worried about this delay. We’ve just gotta wait a little bit longer until we can get our hands on the official release of the game!

Let me know what your thoughts are about the game!
