It’s taken me a long time to experience the end of the NieR Re[in]carnation story ever since service ended at the end of April. I was super busy getting used to my new contracted job and then I broke my leg/ankle just before Golden Week, so it was the furthest from my mind, unfortunately.
So, I’ve been trying to catch up as much as possible and I recently watched gameplay through to the end of the story as well as several of the live broadcasts with the staff. I still need some time to process everything, but in the meantime, I wanted to share this little bit about Noelle that I came across.
Noelle was always an interesting character from the first time she appeared in the game, and these extra bits about her really spark my imagination. This was a question regarding Noelle’s origins, whether she might be directly related to NieR:Automata or perhaps Replicant. Scenario writer Karin Harada answered this during the April 18 live broadcast, which you can view below.
Well, the answer might be a little indirect in the form of an unreleased weapon story, which I’ve translated below. This is a story in the Si’F series of weapons for Noelle. I also tried to search “Sisters Fang” in English and couldn’t find anything (it also may or may not require an apostrophe, so I left it without), so I’m curious to know if this was never explained in English. As far as where it fits within the other Si’F weapons, Harada mentioned that this is the first in the series, hence the double 0s.
I believe this is talking about the Original android from which the others like Noelle were created, but I don’t recall if we were given any other details that would allude to who the Original could be. Given how closely related they seem to be with the Dragon weapons, I’d like to imagine that they’re alluding to the Original Accord in the Kingdom of Night around 6230. Or, perhaps these are precisely the human form of the dragon weapons that we all know and love and Accord is the one who first gave this character her name.
Also, here’s the 17th Live Broadcast from March 6 if you missed it. They also talked about a lot of interesting things, so definitely check it out!
