Toward the end of November, Odd Entertainment released a PV video for Yoko Taro’s upcoming stage play based off of his manga series Thou Shalt Not Die / Kimi Shi ni Tamou Koto Nakare. Along with the video that serves as a great character introduction video is the gorgeous theme song sung by Kuryuu Mina (栗生みな) who plays the character of Botan, a returning character from the manga series.
The official Twitter account for the stage play announced that this song, entitled “Colorless”, is now available for purchase at the following links:
Just the name alone, I think, carries a lot of meaning with it considering all the characters in the play are named after…
COLORS
Whether you’re a fan of Yoko Taro, the manga series, or whatever, this is a freaking kick-ass song that you need to hear at least once. I can easily see myself listening to this on eternal repeat for a good, long while…!
I’m hoping they will release a CD version of the song at the performance of the play so that I can get some official lyrics. I’ll work on my own version (by ear), but here is the opening verse with my adapted English translation:
見上げた空から降る
闇色無数の雫
アスファルト黒く滲む
変わって行く街
look at the sky, there’s something falling
it’s like they’re countless drops of darkness
they stain the ground and everything in sight
forever changing the city
The main part from the refrain is this line:
続けて 真っ直ぐに サヨウナラ
Keep at it Straight ahead Good-bye
……and as it turns out, I couldn’t help but purchase tickets for EVERY show of the stage play. It’s a lot of money, but I kinda feel like this is what my dad would have wanted me to do, to go and enjoy something that I felt really passionate for… And so that’s what I will do. I’m so excited and yet really afraid that these poor performers will think I’m some crazy freak or something… but y’all know part of that’s true, right? lol Nah, I’m just really, really shy by nature, which I really doubt any of that comes through properlly over the Internet. haha
Anyway, it looks like I’m going to be pretty busy on the 22nd when the NieR:Automata demo comes out, so I’ll try to get videos and what-not of that out as soon as I can. I hope they’ll have the demo ready for download relatively early in the day… because the first show of the play that day is at 2:00PM…

The production company behind the new Thou Shalt Not Die / Kimi Shi ni Tamou Koto Nakare ZERO stage play just released a bunch of fun videos tonight. The promotional video is nothing special, but it gives us the first taste of what sort of music to possibly expect from it.

Gearing up for the run of the “Thou Shalt Not Die / Kimi Shi ni Tamou Koto Nakare -ZERO-” stage play later this December, creator Yoko Taro and director Matsuda Ichidai recently gave a short comment regarding it! Check it out on YouTube below.
I also included a rough interpretation of what they were discussing. I don’t call this a translation because there are a couple places were I can’t clearly hear. I may make edits later.
M: Yes, hello! We’ve got a play coming up in December! The creator of the play “Thou Shalt Not Die / Kimi Shi ni Tamou Koto Nakare -ZERO-” is with us today, Yoko Taro! Y: Hello, I’m the original creator behind this show, Yoko Taro. M: (haha) Your voice… it’s so muffled! Y: I guess I wrote a pretty dark story… M: Yeah, it’s pretty dark. Y: Plus, we’re debuting it over the Christmas holiday season… M: That’s right, it’ll be out over Christmas, huh? Y: I can’t be more sorry for that. I’m really sorry. M: No, no, no… Y: Thank you very much. M: What do you think is the best way to spend the Christmas season? Y: I think it’s best to share a toast with your significant other and then break up. M: Toast & break up? (haha) That’s pretty much the feeling I think you’ll get from the play. Y: It’s nothing really. M: No, no, no. It’s pretty sad. There’s a bit of love in there, too, right? Y: No, not really. M: (haha) Didn’t you just say that? What about romance? Y: No, there’s no romance, either. M: (haha) There’s no romance, either? Okay, I got it. Y: There’s nothing. M: (haha) Nothing! Well, this is the meaning of “Zero”, the play that starts from nothing, but I think it looks pretty fun, interesting—interesting? Fun, gorgeous, and painfully beautiful—with fighting, too. There’s no romance, or anything else for that matter, but… Y: Absolutely nothing. M: Maybe something—or nothing happens—BUT… I have a feeling this is a really great story. I hope you look forward to it! Thank you very much, sensei! Y: Thank you! See ya! M: Bye! |
