Could a NieR Themed PS4 Be in the Works?

I noticed this last night, but I was half-conscious at the time, still trying to get over the cold that I came down with two weeks ago, so I couldn’t write anything about it until now (sorry!!). But the NieR official Twitter account sent out an interesting tweet last night:

NieR_JPN: Hypothetically… Hypothetically speaking, we’d like to ask your opinion, but… if there were a “NieR” themed console, would you want it?

  • I’d buy one.
  • I’d buy two.
  • I’d buy one and a Pro.
  • I wouldn’t *not* buy one. (Undecided)

Yoko Taro also made an interesting follow-up comment:

Yoko: Ah, a NieR themed console, something like a “Snow in Summer” model that has little bits of salt packed inside the spaces between the buttons, right? Huh? In the game? It can’t be done. I mean, the salt would clog it up and corrode the wiring and motherboard.

Then Saito Yosuke responded to Yoko Taro’s tweet above:

Saito Yosuke: It would be a model that couldn’t corrode even with salt packed inside of it.

As for me, I currently don’t own a PS4 and I don’t plan on getting it for anything other than NieR:Automata, so for me at least, it would be super cool to get a special themed console.

Feel free to respond to their message in whatever language you speak! I’m sure they’d be interested in hearing from you!

** Beware of possible spoilers below: NieR:Automata trailer discussion and YoRHa stage play references appear below. **

Did you guys catch the NieR:Automata presentation at TGS2016? Check the video below if you haven’t!

I needed a day or so to recoup from being on my feet all day there… so I’m sorry for the delay in writing anything about it.

Here are some of my notes from the presentation:

Tyrann’s Ancestry

Yura Masayoshi (Tyrann), Illustrated by D.K

Yura Masayoshi (Tyrann), Illustrated by D.K

I was recently reminded something about Tyrann that may or may not have a greater significance in the future.

In the DOD World Inside book, page 241, Yoko Taro was asked to discuss more information about who Tyrann was prior to becoming a Gestalt. I’m not going to get into his background as the human Yura Masayoshi and all the crap that he did, but there’s one thing that Yoko Taro states here that is very interesting:

“Tyrann’s ancestor is hidden somewhere in ‘Drakengard’.
It might be wise to have another look.”

  • NOTE: I remember people were saying that Yura’s ancestor is in DOD2, but this is *incorrect*. He specifically said DOD1.

Now, I don’t believe this has been discussed much on English sites, but there are a few Japanese sites that give some interesting possibilities.

One site was suggesting that since Caim and Angel came into NieR’s world through a portal, they would be the only possible ancestors. Obviously, Angel’s a dragon, so she is not possible. So then what about Caim? Sure, maybe, but… he’s kinda dead by the end of that fight, as far as I recall… ;|

The other site gave a couple more plausible ideas:

  1. A Scarface jet pilot
  2. A character from a Weapon Story

Given Yura’s connection to the military, #1 could very well be possible. I’ll have to read through the Weapon Stories again to see if anything seems like it could be a reference to his ancestry… but this could also be a strong possibility.

A second bit of speculation that I’ve been thinking about for a while now deals with connecting Yoko Taro’s manga series “Thou Shalt Not Die // Kimi Shi ni Tamou Koto Nakare” with NieR… and possibly to Tyrann himself.

Gearing Up for TGS 2016!

Like every year around this time since I moved to East Japan, I need to think what to wear to TGS.

One thing that’s important to understand about TGS is that… the crowds are insane. Imagine the last train from Shinjuku on a Friday or Saturday night, but way worse.

I’m not a crowd person. I don’t like to be squished between sweaty strangers who are trying to make it to a certain booth for free stuff. I’m not a cosplayer who spends the night in town so they can get up early and get in line to change into their costumes. I’m just an average, semi-otaku, anime/game freak. Nothing special about me, but I do occasionally want to show my appreciation for the series and titles that I love.

Last year, I brought two costumes to play around in:

I first went semi-dressed as a female Kung Fury so that I wouldn’t have to wait in line to put anything on… and I brought a small suitcase with my 2B costume to change into later. Apparently, I got the the venue a little later than expected and walked around longer than I thought as Kung Fury that… there really wasn’t any time to switch over to 2B. orz I really don’t know why I tried at all.

So, this year I was thinking what I should do. I don’t have the patience to try any actual cosplay this time around, but I still wanted to do something fun… so I thought, why not get a custom made T-Shirt with something NieR related?

Back in January, I asked a friend of mine on DeviantArt to illustrate a couple characters for me. One was, of course, 2B from the up-coming NieR:Automata, and the other was an illustrated version of my YoRHa OC, No34, that I cosplayed back in 2014 for Halloween. Here’s what she came up with:

Shortly after going to see the first run of Yoko Taro’s stage play YoRHa, I thought up my own character, with stats and her own backstory.

You can read more on YoRHa No34 and view more of my crazy cosplay photos of her here.

Long story short, I just received the T-Shirt that I had custom made… and I’m really happy with it! I still need to try it on and take a couple pics, but… That will have to be a little later. ^^
