This just in! The NieR:Automata OST will be released on March 29! The soundtrack alone will be three discs, but the initial release will come with a  “secret” 4th disc as a bonus!! I wonder what it could be!!!

The bonus disc is not only for pre-orders!!! The initial release, whether you pre-order it or purchase it when it’s released, will come with the bonus CD. I expect it to be similar to the bonus discs that originally came with the previous NieR soundtrack.

NieR Display at Tower Records in Shinjuku

Just a couple days ago, the official Twitter account for the Tower Records store in Shinjuku posted a photo of their nice display featuring many of the NieR soundtracks and more to strike up interest in the release of NieR:Automata. They even made an awesome Emil cardboard mask for people to take selfies with!

Pretty cool, right? So, of course, I had to go check it out for myself! Here’s what the display looked like:

Here’s a closer look at the items that were featured in this display:

NieR Tribute Album -echo-

Piano Collections – NieR Gestalt & Replicant

NieR Gestalt & Replicant – 15 Nightmare & Arrange Tracks

NieR Music Concert & Talk Live Blu-ray

Drag-on Dragoon 3 Original Soundtrack

NieR:Automata new theme song collaboration with the band amazarashi (Akita Hiromu) includes an illustration book specifically designed by Yoko Taro. Reservations for this release scheduled for February 22nd are currently open!

And just like the image that was uploaded to the Tower Records Twitter account, they left a really nice Emil mask next to the display for people to us in their own selfies. xD

Here’s a few pics of insane me using it:

Gamescom 2016 Interview by Hooked

Thanks to Christian on Twitter, I’ve learned that Hooked has made yet another NieR:Automata interview, this time from the recent Gamescom 2016 in Germany! Check it out below!

And here are a few things that they discussed:

  • The game was never delayed. The staff had always imagined a 2017 release, but the media was always asking or expecting Automata to be released in 2016, so that is reason for this disconnect. An actual delay is when you have an exact release date which is changed to a later date.

  • Yoko Taro has always wanted to make a stand-alone shooting game, but Square Enix always denied his requests. This is why he likes to put in as much shooting scenes as he possibly can. He likes to throw in a bunch of different game genres into one. That being said, Automata will have much more shooting aspects than the previous title, so have fun imagining what might be in store!

  • The team wants to put on a similar concert, like what was held in Japan this past spring, internationally, but nothing can be decided yet until they have a sense of how many people are likely to attend such an event. Once they see how well NieR:Automata performs, then they will be able to decide on future events; this includes other spin-off titles like an anime series or another stage play.

  • There will be multiple versions of particular songs that are sung by different individuals. The boys choir that was used in the previous NieR cannot be used again because all of the boys are older now and cannot produce the same tone; therefore, other younger voices will be occasionally used. Okabe Keiichi also sporadically provides the vocals.

NieR:Automata Theme Song Vocalist Revealed

famitsu-20160505

There will be a new interview in the May 5, 2016 issue of Famitsu magazine (on sale April 21) detailing a ton more info regarding the up-coming music concert. A portion of this article has been published on their site online, which I will be translating soon.

They released the name of the non-Japanese vocalist in the new theme song as J’Nique Nicole or Nikki.
