Dengeki PlayStation to be Discontinued at the End of March

Dengeki PlayStation logo as seen on Twitter.

In an announcement by Editor-in-Chief, Chiki Ryoaki, we’ve learned that one of Japan’s longest running magazines on video games, Dengeki PlayStation, which began publications 25 years ago in 1994, will be discontinued at the end of March.

The Dengeki PlayStation monthly magazine will be discontinued following the final release of Vol.686 on March 28. Next to Famitsu, Dengeki PlayStation has been releasing issues for 25 years since Vol.1 in 1994. However, due to the continuing change in how information is distributed, releasing physical issues has become rather expensive.

Many readers have already been able to access articles on Dengeki Online or on the Dengeki Online YouTube channel during regular “Dengeki PS Live” segments. They will be considering producing additional publications such as extra editions, mooks, and more. They will also continue to produce articles on the Web under the “Dengeki PlayStation” title as well as releasing “Dengeki PS Live” programs and other videos on Dengeki Online.

Therefore, there are only two remaining issues: Vol.685 to be released on February 28 and Vol.686 on March 28.

Additional Questions for Yoko Taro By Dengeki PlayStation

This is an old questionnaire in Issue Vol. 638 of Dengeki PlayStation magazine that I forgot to translate all these years. Below you can find a quick snapshot of this section on the page followed by my English translation.

It also appears that Chunsoft’s Zanki Zero is also featured in this issue! I’ll have to take another look at that later…

The overwhelming “World of Yoko” Story

#2 The Sci-Fi atmosphere gets a big boost!
This story takes place on an Earth that has been stolen by Bio-machines

#3 Androids without emotion?
The “YoRHa Squadron” is humanity’s only hope

  • Among the ranks of androids, a small number of mighty warriors known as the “YoRHa Squadron” were created.
  • Rogue androids: The mysterious A2. Although she is also a member of the YoRHa Squadron, she entirely works on her own.

#4 The Commander in charge of the YoRHa Squadron and the Resistance, all of which are androids

#5 The action is amazing!
Platinum Games is in charge of the battle system.

  • Speed attack… Square button
  • Heavy attack… Triangle button

TOPIC #1: The dodge function adds a ton of fun to the action

  • If you dodge at the right time, you can counter an attack

Each weapon has its own unique pros and cons

  • light sword
  • heavy sword
  • spear
  • combat bracers

#8 Use the plug-in chips to design your character around how you like to play

#9 If you’re having trouble, turn on the “Auto Mode”

#12 Enemy Bio-machines have interesting designs
Their appearance will differ from location to location

Topic #2: Bio-machines have uniquely evolved in each area
What is the purpose for this distinction?

Boss enemies also have their own special design.

  • As you progress through the game, you will fight bosses that have unique attacks. You’ll have to discover what their weaknesses are on your own!
  • Some bosses use long-range attacks that you’ll have to maneuver through if you really want to prevail.

#13 Depending on the situation and the enemies you fight, the camera angle will change.

#14 Fighting is not the only thing?
Sometimes you can take a break and go fishing!

Very nostalgic name-drops hit!

  • Since the game takes place so far into the future, there is no deep connection with the previous game; however, Emil, Devola, and Popola seem to be returning (this Devola & Popola are not the same individual androids as before). If you’re a fan of the first NieR, then you’ll be very happy to see these guys again!

Topic #3: Even some Bio-machines will help you fight!?

  • Pascal is a pacifist who hates fighting. She works with other Bio-machines who share the same hopes for a peaceful world. Sometimes Pascal will tag along with 2B, but what is her true intentions?

#18 A ton of Sub Quests and Weapon Stories

  • Get quests from various people from all over the place
  • As you upgrade your weapons, an additional portion of the Weapon Story will be unlocked

#19 Multi-ending Story?
Work your way to the very end

  • Could 2B & A2 be on opposite sides even though they’re both YoRHa androids?
  • The original game had multiple endings as well; but a revealing truth will become clear through the further you progress through each ending.

#20 The game is out on February 23rd! For the Glory of Mankind!

Dengeki PlayStation Live Broadcast 12/15

Dengeki PlayStation will host their first NieR:Automata Live Broadcast this Thursday, December 15 at 8:00PM (Japan Standard Time).

More gameplay footage and new info is scheduled to be released. Ishikawa Yui (2B), Hanae Natsuki (9S), Saito Yosuke (SQEX), Nishimura Eijiro (PG), and Tadatsugu (MC) will be on the show.

Fans have suggested that potential areas of discussion may revolve around the upcoming demo and/or Jump Festa this Saturday, December 17th. Remember, the new NieR YoRHa/2B designed hoodie will be available first at the event before it’s brought over to the SQEX e-STORE.

Also, if you remember way back when Saito Yosuke started a poll on Twitter to ask fans whether they’d be interested in a NieR themed PS4… This would be good timing to let an announcement like drop ahead of the NieR:Automata demo! Perhaps we’ll hear more about this during this live stream…?

Personally… I won’t be able to watch this live as it’s happening since my company scheduled an “enkai” that night. I’m really sorry about that, but I will get home to report the new goodness as soon as I can! Thanks!!
