The NieR:Automata Demo Will Be Available on December 22!

This news was just released by various sources in Japan and elsewhere, but the rumored demo version will be available for free through the PlayStation Store WORLDWIDE on Thursday, December 22!

It seems as though 2B may be the only playable character in this demo, in which…

…she is thrown into the ruins of an ancient factory…

…where she battles a bunch of little mechanoids…

…and then this thing apparently gets in her way…

Another fan on Twitter pointed out that this boss may be designed after the largest machine in the world today: the Bucket-wheel excavator, of which the the Bagger 293 is the largest model.

NOTE: It was stated on the official NieR: Automata Facebook page as well as on Gematsu that there will be a worldwide, simultaneous release of the demo.

There are also a couple points about the demo to be aware of, as stated by Dengeki Online:

  1. Exactly what time on the 22nd the demo will become available for download has not yet been descided.
  2. Content in the demo may differ from the final product.
  3. There will be no save files or the like that can later be carried over to the official release of the game.

Point #1: Ack, I’m a little worried about this because… I have a ticket to go see Yoko Taro’s new stage play “Thou Shalt Not Die / Kimi Shi ni Tamou Koto Nakare: ZERO” at 2:00pm that day… Maybe if they release it earlier in the morning, I should hold off until I get back from the play… orz

Point #2:  This makes it seem like there may still be some major changes from when the demo drops to when the game is actually released.

Point #3:  And this is a little unfortunate, as I always liked demos for this very reason: that save files can be carried over. Oh, well. I guess this particular demo will be strictly a demo. I suppose that’s okay, though, since you’ll still be able to get a feel for the world and how the game plays, etc.
